Day 2

This morning after breakfast, we made our way into La Crosse, Wisconsin to go letterboxing at Hixon Forest. This took longer than expected and in the end, we couldn't locate the letterbox we were looking for. (letterboxing.org) But the weather was nice for a walk in the woods and Annalise is really cute carrying our letterboxing kit in her backpack. (See photo below.)

Then we drove on trying to make up for lost time from yesterday. We were able to make it to Chamberlain, South Dakota as planned. I hope this will give us time to be able to detour through the Badlands and to Mount Rushmore on Tuesday.

It is amazing to see the variety of God's creation as we travel. As far as Annalise was concerned, we passed Mt. Everest during our travels today. I had to explain to the girls that Mt. Everest is much taller than the Sears Tower. (They asked which was taller.) I was also chuckling as I anticipate their reaction as we head into the Rocky Mountains. It is incredible how far away the horizon has been as we travel through South Dakota.

We have enjoyed the luxuries of modern road travel: DVD players, MP3 players, and audio books. Today we had an educational experience for both the mind and soul as we listened to The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. I'm not adding it to the Off the Shelf list, but we do recommend reading it.

Then of course to the hotel for swimming and bed.

  1. I am following your journey avidly, but I am confused. Are the times posted "real"? Can you really function after mid-night?
